A Chorley student has won the Apprentice of the Year Award at Blackburn College’s Further Education Star Award.

Former Holy Cross High School pupil Adam Beardsworth was nominated by members of Blackburn College staff and was presented with his awards by Blackburn College Principal and Chief Executive, Dr Fazal Dad.

The College’s Further Education Star Awards recognise students’ achievements and successes.

The 20-year-old who is undertaking a Level 3 Electrotechnical apprenticeship and is working as an apprentice electrician at Blackburn with Darwen Council, was praised by his tutors for his commitment and dedication to his studies.

Adam was also noted for being eager to learn and applying himself well on site and working with minimal supervision. His colleagues at Blackburn with Darwen Council have commented on him being excellent with colleagues and customers and being a valuable member of the team.

Adam said: “I was really shocked when I was put forward for the award, and never expected to win, it’s great to know my hard work is paying off and that I’m being noticed for the work I’ve been doing.

“I’ve really enjoyed my three years at Blackburn College and am looking forward to going into my last year in September, after that I’m hoping to stay at the council and undertake a HNC in Electrical Engineering.

“I’m glad I decided to do my apprenticeship through Blackburn College as all the tutors have been really helpful and supportive.”

Blackburn College Principal and Chief Executive Dr Fazal Dad said: “Congratulations to Adam for being named Apprentice of the Year at our Further Education Star Awards.

“It’s been an honour to celebrate the many successes of our students in-person this year.

“The awards provide an opportunity to get together to celebrate students across a wide range of College Further Education full-time programmes. It is a pleasure and a privilege to have had the opportunity to congratulate each of our hard-working students who were nominated for an award this year.”
