Media student celebrates after taking home accolade at Blackburn College’s FE Star Awards
A Read student is celebrating after being named Media Student of the Year at Blackburn College’s end of year Further Education Star Awards.
Aimie Smith, 18, was nominated for the awards, which recognise students' achievements and successes, by her tutors for her application to her studies, positive attitude and the encouraging impact she has had on her peers.
Tutors also stated how Aimie, who is studying on the College’s Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media, Production and Technology course, has persevered to achieve her goals and displayed good academic work throughout the year whilst working well within groups, showing great organisation and leadership skills.
The former Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School student will continue with the second and final year of her media course in September before she looks to study Film and TV Production at university.
Aimie said: “When I saw I was nominated, I didn't really expect to win. I've never really been recognised before this, so I was over the moon that my hard work has been acknowledged.
“Our class has gelled really well together, and this has made the course really enjoyable in addition to the support from my tutors which has been excellent.
“I've always struggled with confidence when presenting. My tutor has gone the extra mile, helping me with different strategies to develop in this area and overcome any challenges I faced.”
Blackburn College Principal and Chief Executive Dr Fazal Dad said: “Congratulations to Aimie for being named Media Student of the Year at our Further Education Star Awards.
“It’s been an honour to celebrate the many successes of our students in-person this year. The awards provide an opportunity to get together to celebrate students across a wide range of College Further Education full-time programmes.
“It is a pleasure and a privilege to have had the opportunity to congratulate each of our hard-working students who were nominated for an award this year.”
There’s still time to apply for a place at Blackburn College for the new academic year. If you’re interested in applying, please call us on 01254 292929 or apply now.
