Three Blackburn College apprentices are vying for success at NHS awards

Three Blackburn College apprentices are vying for success after being shortlisted for the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Health and Care Apprenticeship Awards 2022.

Joanne Harris, Megan Longworth and Jane Johnstone have all been shortlisted for awards which will be announced on 17th June at Stanley House Hotel and Spa.

Megan Longworth has been shortlisted for the Perseverance Award, Joanne Harris has been shortlisted for the Non-Clinical Apprentice of the Year award, while Jane Johnstone has been nominated for the Rising Star award.

Joanne Harris, 55, from Crawshawbooth works for Blackburn with Darwen Council as an Occupational Therapist Team Manager and is undertaking a Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Joanne said: “I’m really surprised that I was nominated for the award and am delighted that I’ve been shortlisted. The course has been so beneficial and helped me as I moved into the role of a manager.

“All the learning that I’ve covered in the classroom has been put into practice in my role, I didn’t think that it would run parallel so well with my job before I started the course. I’ve really enjoyed the course and will miss it greatly when I finish; I’ve learnt so much and my confidence has greatly improved.”

Megan, 24 from Blackburn who works for Blackburn with Darwen Council as a Review and Assessment Officer in the Home First and Reablement Team studied a Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship – Level 3 (Advanced).

She said: “I’m really proud to have been nominated, it’s great to have my achievements acknowledged. The apprenticeship has really benefitted me in terms of developing my skills in my role and has helped me to progress into a higher role.”

Jane Johnstone, 49, from Longridge who is a Project Coordinator for Midland and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit is finishing her second year of a three-year Chartered Manager degree apprenticeship said: “I was really pleased and grateful to be nominated by my manager for the Rising Star award. I’ve found the course really interesting and so much of what I’m learning can be applied to the workplace. My tutors have been excellent and very supportive and the course timetable fits in very well with my schedule which has been a big bonus.”
