Media Make Up

The media makeup team at Blackburn College would like to give all prospective students interested in joining us in September a challenge.

Hair and Media Makeup Level 2 Qualification

This qualification will cover the basics of becoming a makeup artist with units teaching the principles of makeup application and hair styling techniques as well as some beauty related skills such as eyebrow treatments, eyelash treatments and tanning.

As well as covering these skills, the development of creative design abilities and application skills will be covered within body art applications and fashion and photographic makeup designs looking into the more Avant Garde and creative application skills.

When you have completed this qualification, you can then progress on the Level 3 Media Makeup programme which covers the more advanced skills including theatrical makeup design, airbrushing and blending different types of media skills.

Your Task

We would like to challenge you to create a design board focusing on one of these themes:

  • Rainforest
  • Seasons

Make sure to send photos of your work to Jackie or Julie using jackie.dearn@blackburn.ac.uk or julie.rochado@blackburn.ac.uk

The winner will receive a £20 voucher redeemable on products and treatments at Blackburn College Hair and Beauty Academy Salons.

Deadline for entries: 31st July 2020

What is a design board?

A design board is a collage of images, textures, colours, items and fabrics linked to a design idea or theme. A design board is used to present to somebody else your thought process as well as your design plan.

For this competition we want to see your creativity and how “outside” the box you can take your thinking.

The design can be for a makeup design, body art design or SFX design…whatever you’re most interested in!

We recommend completing it in an A3 sketchpad but whatever is at hand that works for your ideas!

Let your imagination go wild with this one and get inspired by anything and everything!
