Travelling to College

The College campus is located within the town centre, a short walk from the bus and train stations, with easy road and rail links to:

Applying for a Transdev College Bus Pass

Blackburn College has partnered with the local bus company Transdev, to offer a convenient and cost-effective anytime bus pass. This means you can use it to go to and from college, and in the evenings and weekends too.

 

Are you entitled to a Free* Bus Pass?

How would you like a free* travel pass? At Blackburn College, that’s exactly what’s on offer this September for full time 16 to 18 year old students.

The travel pass provides free* travel to Blackburn College, it can be used at any time and at the weekend too!

If you live more than a mile away from college and have a household income below £34,000 you can apply for your bus pass to be funded by the Bursary Fund. You will need to upload evidence of your household income.

We are also offering a low cost travel pass if you're not eligible for the free* travel pass.

*Bus Pass is funded from the Bursary Fund. Funds are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.

 

Subsidised Bus Pass for 16-18 year olds

For those students unable to access financial support, Blackburn College offers a subsidised bus pass with savings of up to £245 a year!

£65 per term** if you live in the Blackburn Travel Area (Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Clayton-le-Moors, Great Harwood, Huncoat, Rishton, Rising Bridge or Feniscowles).

£85 per term** if you live in the Lancashire Travel Area (Bacup, Barnoldswick, Bolton, Burnley, Chorley, Clitheroe, Colne, Haslingden, Helmshore, Nelson, Padiham, Preston, Rawtenstall, Whalley or Wilpshire).

**Students must maintain an attendance rate of 90% or above to be eligible for the subsidised bus pass

 

To Purchase Your Bus Pass

You can purchase your bus pass by making an online payment, quoting the invoice number as:

Bus Pass for [student name here]

Once we have received your payment (this may take up to 3 working days) the Student Finance Office will issue the bus pass electronically to your email address.

To use the bus pass simply:

  1. Download the Transdev Go app (available on Google Play and the App Store) to your smart phone
  2. Click the link in the email to activate the pass in your app
  3. Present your ticket in the app when travelling on the bus

Please also make sure that you have your college ID card with you as the Bus Driver may also request to see this.

 

Travelling by Train

As we are located in the heart of Blackburn town centre, we are only a 12-minute walk away from the train station. Blackburn has regular rail links to Manchester, Leeds, York as well as around the local area.

Travelling by Bike

We provide bicycle parking bays, making it easy for you to cycle into college.

Travelling on Foot

Our town centre location makes us easily accessible, so walking is a great way for students in Blackburn to get to college.
