"I instantly clicked with the tutors and the standard of work they had shown me from previous students impressed me, I could tell they cared about the course."
Hannah said: “I chose to study at Blackburn College because, as soon as I entered the classroom at the Open Event, I felt like it was right for me. I instantly clicked with the tutors and the standard of work they had shown me from previous students impressed me, I could tell they cared about the course.
“I enjoy learning new and interesting things with people who want similar careers to me; people who share the same passions and work ethic. I have been able to thrive within an inclusive, fun and creative environment that is forever changing and suits all different learning types. I have loved being able to go into primary schools and get firsthand work experience, this has been very valuable to me as it has helped me prepare for my future.
“I can now go into a childcare setting with confidence and the knowledge needed to provide high quality care to children from birth to seven years of age. I have a thorough understanding of current frameworks and how they relate to education and Early Years, meaning that I am more professional when entering a work environment.”
She added: “My tutors have never stopped supporting me and my goals, they have been by my side from day one and encouraging me to achieve anything I put my mind to. My main tutor has regular weekly checkups with me and makes sure I am up to date with all my work, but also monitors my wellbeing and mental health.
“I am planning on going to Newcastle University in September to study Education. Following this, I am hoping to have a stable career as a primary school teacher or a teacher within another country.”
Hannah’s tutor Susan Croasdale said: “Hannah is a wonderful student who has a mature attitude to learning and relishes learning new things. She conducts her own independent research to expand her knowledge and understanding of the theoretical concepts studied in class.
“In placement, she puts these theories into practice and receives excellent feedback from her mentors in the setting as well as our placement team. Unsurprisingly, she completed her year one studies with an A* and has continued to work in year two - refusing to let lockdown hold her back.
“She was the first student to submit her UCAS application at College and was offered places at all her five choices before December 2020. Hannah is exceptional not only in her academic studies but personally as well.
“She always displays empathy to those who are struggling with personal issues and is kind and supportive to her peers which makes her popular with everyone she meets. I feel sure that Hannah will continue to go from strength to strength and be a beacon of light in the Early Years sector.”
