Hawwa Rahman currently studies Blackburn College’s Business Level 3 Extended Diploma and has earned a part-time Business Administration job at local charity International Learning Movement (ILM UK) after impressing during her work placement.
Hawwa said: “I started my Blackburn College journey in September 2020 when I began my BTEC Level 3 Business course. So far, I have found the course very enjoyable as I have learned a lot of new information and developed skills such as interpersonal skills. I have also met plenty of new people and friends.
“The units that interest me the most are Unit One: Exploring Business and Unit Two: Developing a Marketing Campaign - this is because I have found learning about how businesses are successful and what they do to target and attract customers quite interesting.
“As part of the course that I am undertaking, I have had to complete one week of work experience. The College was very helpful when looking for work experience as they had found me somewhere within my preferred industry. Asia Malik, the Work Placement Coordinator at Blackburn College, had explained the importance of doing work experience and how this would help in the future with our careers.”
She added: “I completed my work experience at ILM where I took on Business Administration duties. During my placement, I learned a range of different skills including using Microsoft packages such as Excel, Forms and Word, implementing Safeguarding practices in programmes, responding to calls, using a CRM system and writing policies and procedures.
“Also, I learned a lot of other attributes like verbal and written communication skills, synthesising and highlighting key information, IT skills and handling data. Overall, my experience with ILM was great and very valuable, as I expanded my knowledge as well as learning professional practice.
“I have gained an insight into what working in the Business industry would be like. The placement exceeded my expectations and taught me about how much work goes into running a charity. After completing my work experience, my tutor informed me that I had been offered a job at ILM! I am so proud and have accepted the offer - I would like to thank Blackburn College for allowing me to have this amazing opportunity.”
