"I have really enjoyed the practical elements and being part of the running of Scholars Restaurant, which is so much like the industry."
Matteo spoke positively about his experience of studying his practical Professional Cookery Level 3 course from home during national Coronavirus lockdown periods.
Matteo said: “Lockdown was quite challenging and, initially, I was worried that it would be hard to find the motivation.
“I have to say that the College definitely helped with this. I had regular one-to-ones with my teacher where we would talk through the work that needed completing and how things would look working from home – he absolutely supported me fully.
“Once a week, our teacher would give us a different practical tasks to complete. He would show us a demonstration and then would give the class a week or two to complete the task and feedback on our experience.
“This was a great, fun way to keep us engaged and motivated and it encouraged us to keep developing our skills and to try new things.”
He added: "I chose to study at Blackburn College after I attended a Taster Day through school and I loved it! I have really enjoyed the practical elements and being part of the running of Scholars Restaurant, which is so much like the industry.
"The College has prepared me for the future by teaching me industry standard skills within the restaurant. The tutors support you to achieve your goals by teaching you further techniques and helping you build on your potential.
"I am going to University College Birmingham to study Culinary Arts Management BA (Hons)."
