"The tutors at Blackburn College do more than get you exam ready, they help set realistic career goals and help you become job ready."

Jordan said: “Getting Enrolled on to the course was stress free and I liked the look of the course. The course was spread out over two days, which enabled me to carry out current work commitments. As it was classroom-based, it allowed the tutors to give personal advice and support throughout the course.

“I have enjoyed the fact that each module was career-orientated and helped develop my skills for future work. I learned important tips from the tutors which have helped my own personal renovation projects too!

“Each module varied from learning processes and gaining planning permission to developing CAD skills and issuing tender documents. All of which is relevant in roles such as Project Managers, Engineers and Design Engineers.

“One main advantage for students is you gain a highly-recognised Qualification that is also equivalent to first year at University without having to commit to a course for three to four years. Many students jump straight into second year at University after completing their HNC.”

He added: “I was surprised at how many opportunities arose from completing this course. The course is a great stepping stone for anyone wanting to pursue a professional career in Construction, whether that would be a Civil Engineer, Site Manager, Quantity Surveyor, an Architect and much more.

“The course focuses a lot on the Building Information Model (BIM), which is the future of Construction. Understanding BIM has already helped me in my current role as it is used in all Public Sector projects and it is an essential tool that is helping the industry become more efficient - bringing Construction into the 21st century.

“The tutors at Blackburn College do more than get you exam ready, they help set realistic career goals and help you become job ready. It was interesting as the whole class had different aspirations and it was good to see the tutor’s advice would be tailored to the student’s ambitions. Credit to Bill, Rebecca and John who really went out the way to help students either apply to other University courses or helped them secure jobs.

“I am now working as a Rail Engineer Degree Apprentice with Amey Consulting. At the moment, I am currently working on live rail projects such as the Transpennine upgrade, whilst studying a bespoke Railway Engineering Degree at Sheffield Hallam University. My short-term goals are to complete my University course as well as continue advancing my knowledge and experience on live projects.

“I have also become an active member of professional institutions and have recently become an Ambassador for the Permanent Way Institution (PWI) organisation. My aims are to continue developing my career with Amey Consulting and look to become a Chartered Engineer in the future.”
