"By gaining my MCIPS I have managed to gain two internal promotions to Lead Buyer within the three years of studying."

Michelle said: “I am one of the Lead Divisional Buyers for Cumbria and North Lancashire Procurement Services. We cover the Procurement for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. I work in the Surgery and Critical Care Group Team and have been with the department for 5-and-a-half years.

“The Procurement Department has historically chosen Blackburn University Centre as its provider for those wanting the classroom route of study. As I had not been in a classroom for over 30 years I wanted the classroom route rather than remote learning. I met some fantastic people on the course and we all supported each other through the later modules which was a great support.

“The style of teaching suited my learning style – though don’t be fooled into thinking it is the easy route! The tutors gave a lot but they expected a lot back in return. Having been out of the profession for a number of years I joined the Trust as a Purchasing Assistant. By gaining my MCIPS I have managed to gain two internal promotions to Lead Buyer within the three years of studying.”

She added: “In my experience the teaching was a mix of presentations and interactive learning. My tutors were always open to reviewing and critiquing any exam responses I sent to them whilst revising. It was great to know that the support was always there if I needed it.

“As you can imagine working within the NHS and Procurement throughout the current pandemic has been a roller-coaster of a journey and quite an experience. With that in mind I have no immediate plans as I finished my studies and pretty much went straight into the pandemic. I enjoy my role as Lead Buyer and the challenges it brings – especially as we begin the recovery from COVID-19.”
