The lecturers and facilities at Blackburn College empowered me to complete the project

Thomas Williams enrolled on Mechanical Engineering (with Foundation Entry) BEng (Hons) and utilised renewable energy concepts to create his final project. He said:

“My final year project is an Archimedes’ screw generator. I really wanted to be involved in the creation of something that was related to renewable energy – as I believe it is such an important field for a budding engineer.”

An Archimedes' screw generator, also known as an Archimedean screw or screw pump, is a machine used for transferring water from a low-lying body of water into irrigation ditches. Thomas added:

“The lecturers and facilities at Blackburn College empowered me to complete the project and I found the whole process to be very valuable. I have learnt so much!”

Validated by Lancaster University, the Mechanical Engineering (with Foundation Entry) BEng (Hons) features a number of modules relating to sustainability.
